Digitally Printed with Tender Loving Care

It's an electronic book-thing! It's dead trees on the internet!

It's … well, it's the Chamber's 2008 Membership Directory & Resource Guide, now available online in the popular PDF format. We've spared no expense, using only the finest pixels money can buy — hand-picked and examined one by one for quality.

If your copy of the Guide is buried under a pile of stuff you meant to file six months ago, now you can relive it in its full-color glory on your computer screen. Half-remember an ad you saw before you misplaced the darn thing? You'll find it here, printed with genuine government-certified virtual ink.

Or perhaps you're convinced that the Resource Guide's town information section kicks this web site's butt. Well, our webmaster will grit his teeth and serve it up to you just the way you want it. Open wide, because it's 4 megabytes of overstuffed member-town-Chamber goodness.

This is a sneak preview of what we have in store for 2009, as mentioned earlier. Enjoy!

A Small Clarification on those Membership Guide Ads

MKdesign is once again soliciting advertising for the 2009 Membership Directory and Resource Guide. There's one bit of info in the flyers we mailed out last month that's confusing some people, so we'd like to clear it up for everybody.

It's the part about the "free link to your web site," which most of you know has always been free with every membership. What we actually have in mind for this year are two things, totally brand new. Our webmaster is so giddy that he crawled out from under his desk to celebrate.

Number one, we're going to put the entire guide online as a PDF where the whole wide world can view it. We distribute 4,000 copies of the printed guide each year, but online it can reach even more people. Particularly folks from out of town who need information about Fairfield and the Chamber — this way we can save them 5 bucks on postage and get it to them a lot quicker. It's a great resource for people who are relocating here.

The online guide will include all of the advertising in the print version, and we'll provide a handy list of advertisers alongside it, giving your ad more exposure than ever.

Number two, we're doing something extra extra special for anyone who takes out a 1/4-page or larger ad: Your online member directory listing will have a link that says "See our ad!" Guess what? When people click on the link, they'll see your ad — just like we promised. Life-sized,* full-color, and they don't have to go flipping through the guide to find it.

A click on the ad will whisk people straight to your web site, if you have one. Meanwhile, the ad will stay online until the 2010 guide reaches the masses, and if you renew your ad, it gets to frolic on the Chamber's web site for a whole 'nother year.

Now you know what a big deal this is. One little sentence in the flyer couldn't possibly contain it all. So next year, we'll be sure to use lots more sentences, bigger and bolder and as subtle as a nuclear-powered sledgehammer.

* Well, sort of. Nothing on the internet is ever the same size for everyone. But we'll make 'em as big as we can — your friend with the 30" flat-screen monitor won't know what hit her.

Chamber Members at Discount Prices: Everything Must Go!

One of the Chamber's best-kept secrets is our Member to Member Discount program.

Why is it a secret? Because our webmaster's dog buried it somewhere on Sherman Green and we only found it last week. But never mind that.

It's a simple idea: You sign up for the program (it's free!) and choose your own discount, we put it on our web site and in our monthly mailings (it's free!), and fellow members come to you to buy your products and services.

If they can prove that they're Chamber members — our member directory is a good place to look, but DNA tests will also work — you give them a discount. See? Simple.

Members bring their business to other members, save a few bucks, and everybody benefits.

Summertime, and the Chamber is Easy

Ah, summertime at the Fairfield Chamber.

It's that time of year when Patricia goes snowboarding in the Himalayas on a whim; when Linda takes off for 2 weeks and hides the office supplies where we can't find them; when our webmaster decides to finish a project he started five years ago (see above); when all is quiet, until someone calls looking for a good restaurant … in Milford.

Enjoy it while it lasts, folks. September is right around the corner.
