French Bakery Opens After a Long, Long Wait
After months of breathless anticipation (and we know the owners were hanging on the edge of their seats along with the rest of us), Isabelle et Vincent is now open for business.
With 18 years' experience running their own pastry shop in Strasbourg, France, Vincent and Isabelle Koenig moved their family clear across the Atlantic just to bring their Old-World expertise to Fairfield. We're not sure what we did to deserve it, but you won't hear us complaining.
I could go on and on about how Vincent is a seventh-generation pastry chef and master chocolatier, but our editor in chief is in a hurry to scarf down some serious ciabatta. (Never get between him and fresh-baked bread.) If your mouth isn't already watering, just wait till you see their web site: www.isabelleetvincent.com.
Yes, the Email Was Wrong
Operating under the influence of mind-altering drugs and too many Dark Chocolate Peanut M&Ms, our Chief Email Writer didn't notice that the email we sent to our members on May 14 had the wrong date for the May Business After Hours.
Several alert readers have brought the error to our attention, and we thank you. The event actually happens May 28, not April 23. Holding our May Business After Hours in April would have been stupid, and moreover, we all would have missed it.
As we send Email Boy off to detox, rest assured that the web site will always have the correct information until we know otherwise.

Table Decorators Wanted!
Last year we started a brand new Annual Reception tradition with tables decorated by our members. It was a huge success, so once again we're looking for decorating partners.
What You Need To Know
- Tablecloths will be pink. Plan accordingly.
- Only 8 tables are available. Decorate on a first-come, first-decorated basis.
- Provide a centerpiece that can be raffled off. It should be portable, small enough to fit in a car, and saleable.
- You must arrive at the club between 3:30 and 4:30 PM. Your table must be completed no later than 5:30 PM.
Sound like fun? Then drop everything and call the Chamber right now to sign up for a table, 203-255-1011.
We're also looking for tchotchkes! If you have 100 or so small items you'd like to give away, contact us at the Chamber office, 255-1011. You'll need to bring us your items to insert into goodie bags we're providing. Every guest will be sent home with a goodie bag. Remember to keep your items small.
The Last Slide Show
With the April Business After Hours at the Fairfield Theatre Company behind us, we must bid adieu to our tireless event photographer (and Networking Chairperson) Greg Beno, who is moving on to bigger and better things upstate. For his swan song we presents his trademark dotPhoto slide show for your entertainment.
We've managed to talk Regina Madwed of Capitol Photo.Interactive into filling his big shoes, so fear not — we'll still be bringing you all the sights that you missed, just to make you feel guilty for not being there. And you are guilty. Admit it.
The Theatre Company managed to accommodate 70+ people, giving backstage tours and then herding everyone into the theatre proper so our host Miles Marek could have his 15 minutes of fame. It wasn't exactly the world stage, but it was a stage nonetheless.
Parking was an adventure as always, yet everyone found their way into the building one way or another. Many had never been there before, so the event introduced the FTC to a wider audience.
(Speaking of wider audiences, the Theatre Company is managing events at the Klein Auditorium now, allowing them to bring big-name acts to Bridgeport by way of Fairfield — a neat trick in itself — as the Klein's 1,400 seats dwarf the cozy 200-seat space on Sanford Street.)
Hors d'oeuvres came courtesy of Miles' neighbors at Saint Tropez. Many in attendance had their theories about the ingredients that went into the French delicacies, but it's safe to assume that all of the theories were wrong. Some things we mere mortals are never meant to know.
So we look forward now to two networking events this month: First up is the region-wide "Taste of the Showcase" (food!) that closes May 21's Business Showcase, and then we have our May Business After Hours at The Flying Dish (more food!). We'll greatly miss Greg and his camera, but the slide show must go on.
Another Very Duckie Derby
For its second year, Project Pierre Toussaint will send 1,000 rubber duckies racing down the Mill River along Brookside Drive to raise money for its charitable work in Haiti. It starts at 1:30 pm on May 17, rain or shine.
The group describes it as "a fabulous and really fun way to meet a need; children facing hunger!" They hope to raise $6,000 in seed money for a working farm on the PPT campus, a school dedicated to Cap-Haitien's orphaned street children. The goal is to teach them the agricultural skills they need to feed themselves and earn a living.
The Duckie Derby will be followed by the Decorator Duck Competition and awards. Duck-related treats, free games and "the return of the fabulous duck mascots" are all a part of the fun.
Attendance is free, but there are two ways you can support Project Pierre Toussaint:The Duckie Derby — Sponsor a rubber duck for $10 and cheer it on during in the race! Prizes awarded to the top three finishers.
The Decorator Duck Competition — Purchase a 10" duck for $30, then as a family, group or individual decorate your duck. There will be numerous categories and two age groups for judging: 10 & Under and 11 & Over.
Get your tickets at Blinn's Toy Store, or for more information, call Kelly Weldon at (203) 834-5029. To learn more about PPT go to www.Haitippt.org.
