A Leisurely 'Dinner After Hours'
As Chamber staffer Linda Matthews put it, "The smells were wonderful."
Donatella's served up the Feb. 13 Business After Hours along with a never-ending supply of food and drink, as 65 or so people proceeded to commandeer the entire restaurant.
After some standard-issue Business-After-Hours mingling early on when the hors d'oeuvres were making the rounds, the event shifted gears.
In a refreshing change of pace, our attendees were free to sit down at the tables in small groups, all the better to chow down and network at the same time. (At a typical stand-up BAH they would still be trying to juggle that plate of hors d'oeuvres and glass of wine, which is not an easy feat.)
A piano player supplied the perfect backdrop for the eating and chatting and eating and chatting. Like all of the best BAH events, this one had people lingering well past the theoretical 7 pm closing time. And of course, Greg Beno has captured it all for his dotPhoto slide show.
Donatella's will be just one of the five establishments providing the eats for Savor the Flavor on Feb. 28, so if you missed the Business After Hours, mark your calendar for this one.
And even if you were there on the 13th, don't think that you're all done for the month. Savor the Flavor at the Burr Mansion is not to be missed.

Does Your Data Feel Secure?
John Sarra of CMIT Solutions is planning a teleseminar this spring on the topic of data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity -- basically, how to keep your business open and running in the event of a major catastrophe (fire, flood, earthquake, hurricane, alien invasion, and so on).
The date hasn't been set, but watch this space for updates.

Smooshed to be Schmoozed
The first Business After Hours of 2008 was a continuation of last year's string of wildly successful networking events. With 75-odd people squished into the cozy confines of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage on Jan. 23, our members thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink and the up-close (and personal) networking action.
Clustered in cubicles, clinging to the walls and mobbing the food tables, our attendees couldn't swing a cat without hitting a fellow business person (and those who tried spent the rest of the evening with very irate cats clamped to their heads). Making contact has never been this easy.
And better late than never, here's Greg Beno's slide show for your people-peeping pleasure. (It's not often that we beat him to the draw here at ChamberWorks, so we try to enjoy it as much as possible.)
The Business After Hours Express makes its next stop at Donatella's on Feb. 13. We can promise even more food, drink and sparkling conversation -- this time without the swinging cats.
And mark your calendar for next month's multiplicable chamber expo thingy on Mar. 18, which is a double opportunity: to see and be seen by exhibitors from all over the region, and to do some Business After Hours networking without limits. Attendance is free and so are the hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, so it would suck not to be there.

Take a Hike
In conjunction with the Fairfield Public Library's "One Book One Town" March event -- detailing Greg Mortenson's failed attempt to reach the summit of the mountain known as K2, and his subsequent work building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan -- Chamber member Jeff Russek has been invited to present a slide show of his own adventure climbing the Carstanz Pyramid in Indonesia. The presentation is Tuesday, Mar. 25 at 7 pm.
You will learn that even serious-minded insurance experts have a taste for danger: Jeff has breathed the rarefied air at the summits of Mt. McKinley, Kilimanjaro and other high places. And the last slide promises to leave you shocked and smiling -- those who blush easily might want to pick a seat near to the door.
And no, we're not going to tell you what it is. You can call us all day and we still won't blab.

Anyone Need a Desk? Free?
UPDATE: We have a taker. Thanks for your interest!
The Chamber has a computer workstation in need of a good home.
We inherited it from a former Chamber member, and it has served us well for more than two years. Now we must give it away to make room for a new, larger workstation.
The desk measures 54" wide by 27.5" deep and includes a keyboard/mouse tray, two drawers (one equipped for hanging file folders) and two 9" deep bookshelves on the left side. The optional unattached hutch is 25.5" high.
Click on the photo for a closer look. Office equipment, sticky notes and authentic Chamber Clutter™ not included.
This workstation is sturdy and in good overall condition. We haven't tried to take them apart, but it looks like the desk and hutch could be disassembled with a screwdriver.
Give us a ring at 255-1011.
