Relay for Life June 10-11

Relay for Life is a community-driven overnight walkathon designed to spread hope, celebrate life and raise money for the research and programs of the American Cancer Society. The Fairfield relay event -- which includes the communities of Easton, Bridgeport and Westport -- happens Jun. 10-11 at the Ludlowe High School Track.

March Business After Hours Draws a Crowd

More than 60 people came to the Mar. 22 Business After Hours at The Higgins Group, which offered enough office real estate to give the event an airy, spacious feel even with the big turnout.

Business cards were exchanged, contacts made and food and refreshments enjoyed. A big "thank you" to Rick Higgins and his staff for making us all feel at home.

Our indefatigable event photographer Greg Beno -- rumor has it he works for Addeco Employment in between photo excursions, but we can't confirm that -- brings us yet another of his dotPhoto slide shows to document the event.

So even if you couldn't be there in person, you can still experience a little bit of the event, complete with musical accompaniment. (You'll have to supply your own food and refreshments.) Enjoy.

Doing Regional Business at Close Range

Our March BAH wasn't the only opportunity for networking this month.

Once again the Regional Business Networking Expo at Norwalk Community College was a sell-out event, drawing roughly 100 exhibitors. And thankfully it didn't snow this time, so attendance was good.

This annual tabletop expo is a joint presentation of the Fairfield, Darien, Norwalk, Stamford and Westport/Weston chambers of commerce along with the Bridgeport Regional Business Council.

With caterers providing the food and a cash bar stocked with wine donated by area businesses, the atmosphere was quite amenable to browsing the exhibitor tables. (Kudos to the folks from Ivy Concierge, LLC for doing a fine job behind the bar.)

The afternoon concluded with a business after hours networking session, bringing business people together from all over Fairfield County.

We have photos of the event for your perusal. If you couldn't make it this year, here are a few good reasons to come down to Norwalk Community College for the the next one.

Birds of a Feather Invited to Flock Together

With the March winds blowing outside our office, I'm thinking that having wings and feathers and other bird-type things could save us a lot of gas money. But I digress.

May 6 is the date for Birds of a Feather, our indoor beach party at the Patterson Club. Here are Five Reasons Why You Want to be There -- and you know you do:

  1. The Food. Roost for a while and peck away. No backyard birdfeeder here with seeds and suet, but dinner of your choice fit for a kingfisher.

  2. The Libations. Sip your favorite parrothead nectar all night long. Umbrella garnishes optional. Before the homing pigeons strike, swoop over on your migration north and join the party.

  3. The Entertainment. Chirping, squawking, warbling, preening and strutting are allowed on the dance floor. Flap away to live music by the Key West Trio.

  4. The Auction. Enough with the eggs already! Feather your nest with goodies from all around town. Get a bird's eye view of our array of auction items and take something home for the flock.

  5. The Dress Code. Feathers acceptable, but parrothead Key West tropical and casual will do. Flip flops encouraged -- this is a beach party after all.

If those aren't incentive enough, maybe you've been spending too much time around the loons and the cuckoos. Don't make me come out there and tweak your beak.

Wine and Beer and a Buffet, Oh My

The Feb. 16 Twinkle, Twinkle Fairfield Star event at the Scandinavian Club offered a more spacious setting than past wine tasting events. The buffet was expansive and filling, and the traditional selection of fine wines was supplemented by a beer station (woo-hoo!) for the first time ever.

Once again we had a fantastic and eclectic mix of goods and services to bid on for the silent auction. From spirits to spas, baskets to bracelets, and lots in between, how could you not come away with a good deal when the bell rang to close the bidding?

And those weren't the only prizes to be won. The brave souls who took the stage for the karaoke contest enjoyed rousing applause and great gifts for the winners.

Many thanks to Harry's Liquor Warehouse for providing the main attraction, and to all of our members who donated auction items. We're already cooking up ideas for next year.

Another Fine Business After Hours

Hot on the heels of our wine tasting event was the Feb. 22 Business After Hours at Vino on the Brick Walk, which was an unqualified success all around.

Close to 100 people attended the event, which makes for 100 good reasons to dine at Vino. We received rave reviews in the days following, and Anna Lia was a most gracious hostess.

Greg Beno of Adecco Employment has put together another one of his famous slide shows, so be sure to check it out!

Next up is the Mar. 22 event at The Higgins Group. We'll see you there.

The Early Bird Saves Five Bucks

Because of the wonderful (and overwhelming) response to recent Business After Hours events, our preregistration list will now close at 5 pm the day before the event. Beyond that deadline we will welcome any and all last-minute attendees, but at the "walk-in" rate of $15.

So for the upcoming event on Mar. 22, plan to RSVP no later than 5 pm on the 21st if you want to save a few bucks.

Speakers Wanted

If your knuckles don't turn white when you're standing in front of a room full of people, we'd like to know.

We're putting together a series of educational seminars, and we'd like to call on our members first. If you're interested in giving a brief presentation -- not a full-blown commercial for your services, but information our audience can use -- here's your opportunity.

Just fax us the subject of your talk (in 50 words or less) at 256-9990, and be sure to include your phone number.
