New People's Branch Hosts a Fine Business After Hours If you missed the February 16 Business After Hours at People's Bank, you missed a wonderful evening. Approximately 70 folks were expected, and most of them showed up! Eating, drinking and making merry were all a part of the evening, and for good luck, just as the festivities were beginning, a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky over the building. Most unusual for nightfall, and definitely a sign that the new branch will be a prosperous one.

David E. Harris played the piano/organ and entertained the attendees for hours, and Nicholas A Shope catered the food. The repast was way past what one might have expected. There was hot crab dip and big, juicy strawberries on the fruit platter. The wine flowed as the participants admired the new coin machine, and Val Senew handed out a bunch of nice door prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants, a bottle of wine and a bank tchotchke or two.

A big thank you to People's Bank for a mighty fine evening.

Transportation Rally Gets Results -- So Far So Good
by Patricia Ritchie

Rally Gets UnderwayEarly on a January morning, a bus left the Westport commuter parking lot with a bunch of citizens who were just plain fed up with the transportation situation in Connecticut. Some were commuters that had to endure the Metro North train ride to NYC and back every day, while some, like myself, were subjected to the I-95 South route through the Bridgeport corridor and beyond. For me, three years of a 50 minute commute for a 10 mile drive had been enough, and now it was time to let the legislators know how mad we all were.

Jill Kelly, a former member of our board of directors, and Carol Leighton, a Fairfield resident, were the driving forces behind this grassroots effort. They organized a rally in Hartford that had senators and representatives alike sit up and take notice. Governor M. Jodi Rell sent a message to the rally, promising to include transportation money in her new budget, and she made good on her promise. Now it's time to see that she and the legislators follow through.
