It's time to put on our game faces again and fight the future possibility of further casino expansion in Connecticut. Last month the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs granted federal recognition to the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation based in Kent. This means the Tribe is looking to open a third casino in the state. The Chamber urges everyone to watch the newspapers for upcoming informational meetings on how to fight further casino expansion. This topic is very complex, and we want everyone to be aware of the negative impact that expanding existing casinos and development of future casinos will have on the surrounding communities.
Once again the annual Chamber Wine Tasting and Silent Auction was a great success. Special thanks to Harry's Wine and Spirits for providing their expertise and a great selection of wines, and to the Greenwich Workshop Gallery for hosting the event. A big thanks to Denise Johnson for arranging the wonderful cuisine provided by the best local restaurants and chamber volunteers. For those of you who have never attended this event, you have missed out on one of the premier evening events hosted by the Chamber. We had over 75 valuable silent auction items donated by a wide variety of businesses. Thank you everyone who contributed.
Please remember to check the web site for our schedule of upcoming events. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next "Business After Hours" and the annual gala "Johnny Be Dead" on May 8th at the Brooklawn Country Club. Remember to sign up early.
Ted Fitzgerald
Chairman
Say Goodbye to the Chamber Newsletter Mailings
More and more Chambers have done away with mailed newsletters in the interest of saving time and money, and the Fairfield Chamber is following this trend.
In order to streamline administrative duties and to cut costs, we will be mailing only the paid advertising, including inserts, and a calendar of events, beginning in June. The Chamber newsletter will be available via email and the web site only.
It will be even more important for you to keep the Chamber office apprised of any changes in your email address (see this month's Web News). Please be sure to let us know when changes occur.

February Business After Hours Recap
Approximately 45 people attended the Business After Hours at American SIGNS & Designs in February. A good blend of new, old, and prospective members attended. A big "thank you" to Wayne Savard and Leon Lebenkorn for hosting this gathering.
Ellen Hyde Phillips of Fairfield Interiors will host the March 17 Business After Hours at her new location, 25 Lindbergh Street. You can make your reservations by calling the chamber office, sign up online, or mail in the flyer enclosed with this issue of ChamberWorks.
April 15 at the Community Theatre
Our April Business After Hours will take place in the Fairfield Community Theatre on Unquowa Road. Co-hosted by the Fairfield Chamber, this event will be held at a special time, 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. Movie showings begin at 7 p.m., so we must be out of there promptly.
Progress continues its relentless march through the chamber office, leaving muddy footprints all over my desk. Starting in June, the paper newsletter will be no more, ending my brief career in print. But this online incarnation of ChamberWorks will carry on ("Web News" included), and selected Important News Items will begin reaching our members by email. Less postage for us, fewer paper cuts for you. It's a big win for everybody.
There's only one problem: A bunch of you still haven't given us an email address yet.
I mean, you do wish to continue receiving the aforementioned Important News Items, don't you? Of course you do. Otherwise you won't know about all the work we're doing for our members, the many events we're planning, or the issues that affect businesses in and around Fairfield. In a word, you would be ... uninformed.
So to keep yourself out of the Dark Ages, you need to give us your email address, squiggly little "@" symbol and all. Rest assured that we won't publish it without your express permission (we hate junk mail as much as the next guy), and that we won't be forwarding any of those goofy jokes from our Aunt Millie, either.
We'll begin sending out info forms soon, but in the meantime you can shoot an email off to info@FairfieldCTChamber.com just to be sure we've got you covered.
And when you do get that form in the mail, please be careful opening the envelope. The folks at 911 are getting a little tired of responding to all the paper cuts.
