President's Message

The town's Financial Plan Advisory Committee recently released its report on capital spending, operating budget, and revenue trends. According to the report, commercial property has markedly declined as a proportion of the total tax base in Fairfield. The committee recommended expansion of the commercial tax base to keep tax increases from being borne entirely by resident property owners. Commercial properties mentioned include tax-paying office, retail, restaurant and related businesses.

One way to facilitate the committee's recommendation downtown is through the Connecticut Main Street Center Program. The program's potential benefits include;

Technical assistance is available to develop a Main Street program for communities that qualify. Fairfield does not qualify. The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce is prepared to develop a strong and ongoing partnership with the town government and other community groups to make Fairfield eligible.

Gift Certificate Program

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION!

The "Gift of Choice" Gift Certificate Program will begin its fourth year on April 1, 2002. Deadline for participation is just ahead this month, so please be sure to contact the Chamber office to let them know you want to once again participate. We will fax you the registration form if you need one, or take your information over the phone. We project an even larger number of participants than in the past.

This program was established as one of a number of benefits for members. Only Chamber members have an opportunity to be a part of the Gift Certificate Program. If you know of a non-member that has interest in either this program or Chamber Membership, we would be happy to talk with them personally and discuss the benefits of both! Annual sign-up fee is only $35.00.

We promote this program in so many ways, through newspaper and program ads, the school system, our universities, flyers, inserts and more. And as you know, it helps keep the monies in our community.

INTERESTED? PLEASE GIVE US A CALL AT 255-1011.

Correction

The Chocolate Shoppe was a most gracious donor to our Wine Tasting & Silent Auction in January, however, they were inadvertently left off of our February newsletter list. Thank you, Janet, for your understanding!

Over 40 people attended, and our Ambassadors were on hand to meet and greet those new and prospective members. Nancy Panzenbeck of Turnpike Spirit Shop provided libations. Thank you, Suzanne, for a great time!
